【主講人簡(jiǎn)介】

  Michael Beer教授來自漢諾威萊布尼茲大學(xué)（德國九所頂尖理工大學(xué)聯(lián)盟TU9成員之一）。作為萊布尼茲大學(xué)風(fēng)險(xiǎn)與可靠性研究所所長(zhǎng)，Beer教授是工程領(lǐng)域風(fēng)險(xiǎn)與不確定性研究的國際著名專家。Beer教授畢業(yè)于德國德累斯頓理工大學(xué)，之后獲洪堡基金會(huì)資助在美國萊斯大學(xué)從事博士后研究。2007年到2011年，他作為Tenure-Track助理教授加入新加坡國立大學(xué)；2011年到2015年，Beer教授作為終身講席教授加入英國利物浦大學(xué)；2015年開始，Beer教授加入萊布尼茲大學(xué)，創(chuàng)建風(fēng)險(xiǎn)與可靠性研究所。作為萊布尼茲大學(xué)終身W3級(jí)教授，他同時(shí)在利物浦大學(xué)、清華大學(xué)、同濟(jì)大學(xué)擔(dān)任兼職名譽(yù)教授。

Michael Beer is Professor and Head of the Institute for Risk and Reliability, Leibniz Universit?t Hannover, Germany, since 2015. He is also part time Professor at the University of Liverpool and at Tongji University, Shanghai, China. He obtained a doctoral degree from Technische Universit?t Dresden and pursued post-doctoral research at Rice University. From 2007 to 2011 Dr. Beer worked as an Assistant Professor at National University of Singapore. In 2011 he joined the University of Liverpool as Chair in Uncertainty in Engineering and Founding Director of the Institute for Risk and Uncertainty and established a large Doctoral Training Center on Quantification and Management of Risk & Uncertainty. Dr. Beer’s research is focused on uncertainty quantification in engineering with emphasis on imprecise probabilities. Dr. Beer is Editor in Chief (joint) of the Encyclopedia of Earthquake Engineering, Associate Editor of the ASCE-ASME Journal of Risk and Uncertainty in Engineering Systems, Associate Editor of the International Journal of Reliability and Safety, and Member of thirteen Editorial Boards including Probabilistic Engineering Mechanics, Computers & Structures, Structural Safety, Mechanical Systems and Signal Processing, and International Journal for Uncertainty Quantification. He has won several awards including the CADLM PRIZE 2007 – Intelligent Optimal Design and a Certificate for Highly Cited Research in Structural Safety. His publications include a book, several monographs and a large number of journal and conference papers. He is a Fellow of the Alexander von Humboldt-Foundation, Chair of the C(PS)2 of the Bernoulli Society and Member of ASCE (EMI), ASME, IACM, ESRA, EASD, and GACM.

Going for an academic career means to set out for a dynamic pathway with often unexpected obstacles and restrictions and also chances. Getting prepared early helps to reduce uncertainties and to increase chances significantly. The presentation will highlight a number of facts that are crucial for success but are often not considered or considered too late. It will be explained how to develop an impactful CV as a basis for applying for academic jobs worldwide. It will also be explained how applications are assessed, and how to prepare them to make the most important items clear to the panels and referees. This presentation is based on own experience in different academic systems and on experience from assessing applications and writing and assessing reference letters.
